    FINANCE DIRECTOR
    JOB BRIEF 

    The incumbent will report to the Chief Executive Officer and the General Manager. Their core responsibility is to strategically develop and maintain the financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections for growth, astutely managing the Accounting/HR/IT/Purchasing/logistics services provided by staff and complying with the legal framework of  accounting principles/standards, regulatory bodies and statutory agencies, to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Company.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE
    • Develops financial strategies by astutely reviewing:
    1. Monthly financial and accounting information,  establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives;
    2. Capital Forecast, facilities,  monetary resources; action plans;
    3. Trends, including currency; establishing critical measurements;
    4. Production capacity, productivity levels, quality management systems.
    5. Information technology systems/tools for relevance;
    6. Human capital resources; resolving problems; implementing change.

    • Assists with planning organization growth  by studying revenue opportunities; projecting acquisition and expansion prospects; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; accumulating capital to fund expansion
    •  Monitors political, economic, regulatory changes and their impact on the business.
    •  Monitors monthly financial performance by measuring and analyzing operational, sales results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
    •  Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
    •  Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
    •  Maximizes return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities; maintaining relationships with the investment community.
    •  Manage the annual auditor exercise ensuring the Company’s readiness in terms of documentations, processes.
    • Assist with procedures, Policy development, and process flow and ensure compliance to international standards for accounting standards, human resources, information technology.
    • Ensure statutory, regulatory requirements are filed, reported on time.
    • Attend various meetings management, directors’ and externally as required to represent the Company.
    • Review with Sales representatives and Store Managers sales and operational performance, outstanding Receivables, and implement corrective actions for the company’s profitability.
    •  Approve all payments – expenditures, wages.
    • Review and approve all departmental expenses.
    • Review all financial reports and submit management report to executives.
    • Liaise with Lawyers, Insurers as required on a case by case basis.
    • Approve credit customers with due diligence report. Submit outstanding Receivables, claims to Lawyers.
    • Maintain a motivated team by carrying out developmental interviews, annual performance appraisals, mentoring and ensuring appropriate training is received where gaps exist.
    • Perform any other task as may be assigned from time to time.
    • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    • Adhere to the statutory/regulatory practices, standards accounting practices, operational procedures, company policies including safety, IT, security and motor vehicle.
     
    • Required to work on Extended hours: The position may require the incumbent to work extended hours, or week-end from time to time to meet deadlines.
      CRITICAL PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’s)

    The job is performed satisfactorily when the following are achieved:

    • Accounting:  Compliance with statutory, regulatory agencies; adherence with accounting standards/best practices; audit exercise reflects conformance, due diligence, accuracy and effective execution of transactions/activities.
    • Taxes:  Compliance with Income Tax Laws, Labour laws - filing of annual returns, monthly taxes (SO1 & SO2 etc), quarterly corporate taxes, end of year filing of business taxes. Deadlines are met.
    • Information Technology: Efficient system in enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in place to adequate capture and report on the activities of the organization.
    • Problem Solving/Analytical: Evidence of resolving problems effectively. Loss reduction, elimination of wastage.
    • Leadership:  Provides guidance and direction to staff. Listens, mentors, develops subordinates.
    • Time Management: On time delivery of financial reports; effective execution of functional responsibilities.
    • Finance Management:  Evidence of cost/budgets containment/balancing; profit projections realized.
    • Human Resource:   Recruitment, Training, compensation policies designed to retain a talented, motivated workforce.
    • Honesty/Integrity:  Evidence of strong moral values and business ethics.
    REQUIREMENT & QUALIFICATIONS
    • Chartered Accountant ACCA or related qualifications. 
    • 5 Years experience in a similar position.
