Position: Digital Machinery Operator
Reporting to: Production Manager
Job Overview
The digital machinery operator is able to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all digital production
equipment including but not limited to digital printers, cnc routers and laser engravers. This person
performs all necessary output requests coming from customers and the company and is expected to
have a working knowledge of various digital output equipment and techniques to assure quality. The
digital machinery operator must also know about design, use of colour, and other creative aspects to
provide final adjustments on artwork output. This person must be able to manage multiple projects in
a fast-paced environment. Meeting deadlines is critical, therefore this position requires efficient time
management and flexibility to work extra hours as necessary.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Operate digital printing, cutting, routing, laser production and related computer equipment to
produce desired output as per customer specification.
• Load appropriate materials into/onto digital production equipment according to standard
procedures and/or job specifications. Must therefore be able to bend, lift and carry materials.
• Assess and prepare equipment, materials, job specifications and digital files appropriately for
output. This includes project grouping for efficient material usage, and minimizing wastage.
• Inspect and examine artwork output is in conformance to job specifications (eg. clarity, colour
accuracy, sizing etc.), and adjust settings as necessary.
• Consult blueprints, technical drawings and sketches in order to prepare and execute job output
according to specifications and requirements.
• Monitor the progress of computerized manufactured jobs to ensure they are being output on
time, adjusting settings as needed to meet deadlines.
• Develop working knowledge of several methods used for digital machinery output using a
variety of materials and components.
• Train new/existing employees on how to use equipment and/or software programs related to
the digital production machinery.
• Perform regular maintenance on digital manufacturing machinery to ensure optimal
performance and preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoot problems with equipment and/or software and making repairs as needed by
consulting manuals and tech support as necessary.
Maintain inventory of supplies such as vinyl, flat stock substrates, inks, mechanical parts and
ordering additional supplies when needed for the digital machine.
• Keep accurate and organized records of production jobs, including job numbers (or work
orders), quantities, material used and related items.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
• Able to work in the production area of the department to facilitate the finishing of graphic
signage, eg. Vinyl mounting, trimming of prints, banner setup with eyelets or on a stand, etc.
• Complete any required forms in a timely manner with respect to work performed and providing
supporting documentation inclusive of photos, videos, and/or similar where applicable.
• Maintain effective time management to meet strict job deadlines. Work extended hours during
the week and weekend as required. Responding to emergency situations on a reasonable basis.
• Collaborate with all departments and informs all applicable parties of any concerns surrounding
an assigned project.
• Adhere to all quality systems and safety procedures.
• Assisting in other duties as required
Education and Experience:
• Formal Training Through a Vocational or Technical School or equivalent experience.
• Ability to Read Diagrams and measurements
• Computer skills
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or similar graphic design program is a plus.
• Knowledge of signage
• 2 years experience with print/ plotter / cnc router /laser engraver machinery and equipment
• Courses and/or certifications in computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing
(CAM) and computer-integrated manufacturing are a plus
